Graduate student Kelly Wright is featured in a Q&A article titled “It’s Good to Hear Your Voice” by writer Susan Hutton for the U-M College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). The article explores what our language really says about us and why we should love to hear the sound of our own voice.
“Everybody has an accent, and what's interesting about your accent, about any individual voice, is that it carries a lot of your history,” says Kelly. “All this interesting stuff comes into your voice and then you get to a point where you think, ‘Okay—this is who I am and this is how I want to sound.’ I don’t think people observe their own voices enough to realize what's really cool about it.”
