The Department of Linguistics is proud to share that Professor Emerita Diane Larsen-Freeman is featured in the newly released volume Becoming a Linguist, published by Routledge (2025).

The book offers intimate insights into the personal and professional journeys of some of the most influential figures in language studies. Comprising 15 chapters, the volume opens with contributions by renowned scholars Noam Chomsky, William Labov, and Claire Kramsch. Professor Larsen-Freeman’s chapter, titled “Lessons Learned,” is the fourth in the collection and reflects on her decades-long career as a pioneering thinker in second language acquisition, complexity theory, and applied linguistics.
