On April 24, 2025, the Department Action Teams for Equitable Teaching (DATET) Pilot Program held their culminating event for the end of the academic year. The Linguistics Department was one of the four departments participating, along with the Comprehensive Studies Program, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. The Linguistics Department was represented by faculty members Ezra Keshet and Natasha Abner, staff member Jennifer Nyugen, and graduate students James Baybaş and Sophia Eakins, assisted also by Emily Castaneda-Espinoza, Waleed Helweh, and Ashley Troyer.
The event consisted of poster presentations for the teams from each department to showcase their planned projects, and included role-based discussion groups and reflections. The Linguistics Department presented proposals for two projects, both of which will be launched during the Fall 2025 semester. The first, a peer mentorship program, aims to address grade disparity in linguistics major courses by fostering connections between undergraduate students in linguistics. This program will provide a more accessible gateway for students to receive guidance about the program and connect with faculty. The second project is the creation of an alumni database in order to highlight the many varied career options available to graduates of the department. By showcasing different alumni career paths and connecting current students to alumni, the program aims to make students feel more confident in choosing a career in linguistics.
