Graduate Linguists at Michigan is an organization, formed in 2002, whose goal is to provide a forum for graduate students to discuss important issues relating to the Department of Linguistics and the University. GLaM reflects several principles of the Linguistics Department: the empowerment of graduate students to assume roles of leadership, collaboration between faculty and students, and cooperation among the graduate students from all subfields of linguistics. GLaM encourages student leadership by assuming primary responsibility for the Linguistics Colloquium and Social Committees, and playing a vital role in graduate student recruitment. GLaM also provides academic support for linguistics graduate students, and proposals emerging from GLaM discussions have influenced, and will doubtless continue to influence, the structure and policies of the graduate program.
