Community Programs

Let our trained docents, staff, or faculty guide you through the ancient world on a tour of the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology’s permanent galleries or rotating special exhibitions.

Our community tours are free and open to all visitors. Persons with disabilities who would like to request accessibility accommodations for a Kelsey event are encouraged to contact the Education Department as far in advance as possible.

Please see the schedule of upcoming tours below. You can also find tours on the events page and listed on our Facebook page.

Current Programs

  • We host Saturday Sampler Tours most weekends. Designed and led by Kelsey Museum docents, these hour-long tours (2:00–3:00 PM) explore a diverse array of topics. The majority of these events take place in person, but virtual tours are occasionally offered.
  • Sunday Drop-In Tours occur several times each month. Similar to our Saturday Samplers, these docent-guided events run from 2:00 to 3:00 PM and explore various facets of the ancient Mediterranean world, from music and animals to politics and propaganda.
  • Our Mid-Day Morsels are scheduled for the second Friday of each month from 12:30 to 1:00 PM. Geared toward faculty, staff, and other members of our campus community looking for some lunchtime entertainment, these brief tours provide a taste of Mediterranean history and artifact highlights.
  • The Kelsey Museum also provides opportunities for more informal learning and engagement with the collection. Stop by the galleries for an “Ask Me” session to get your questions about the ancient world answered by a knowledgeable docent. Or check out our Discovery Carts to handle replica artifacts, play ancient games, reconstruct pottery, or chat with an interpretive guide about Kelsey artifacts.
