Request a Loan

Prepare a formal written request, in consultation with the Collections Manager, at least twelve (12) months in advance of your exhibition opening date.

Please send the letter, addressed to the Kelsey Museum director, to the Collections Department at kelsey.registry@umich.edu. The request should include:

• Purpose and details of the exhibition.
• Dates and venues for the loan.
• List and descriptions of requested objects (including accession numbers, if available).
• A General Facility Report detailing building, environmental, and security information.

The Kelsey Museum will take three months to review the request and an additional six to process the loan, pending receipt of a final list of objects.

If your loan is approved, the Collections Manager will:

• Issue a loan agreement and detailed conservation requirements.
• Coordinate arrangements for packing, shipping, insurance, and courier services (if applicable).
• Invoice for all applicable fees and out-of-pocket costs (packing, transportation, courier travel, etc.).
