About
Robert Rayher has been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Michigan since 1992. His primary creative focus since 1993 has been screenwriting. He has had stints in the motion picture industry and with independent film productions. He is a regional judge for the Student Academy Awards. He has received numerous grants from within the University of Michigan to support student film production and to develop specialized aspects of teaching, from team-teaching to using storyboarding software and apps in the classroom. From the end of the '70's through the early '90's, he produced and presented experimental films and videos. He taught, and was Chairperson, in the Filmmaking Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from the mid-1980's until he moved to the University of Michigan. His experimental films and tapes have been screened widely in North America, and occasionally in Europe and Asia. A number of his titles are available from the Canadian Filmmakers' Distribution Center (cfmdc@interlog.com). His films and videos have been screened at such venues as: Film Forum (L.A.); Cal Arts; San Francisco Cinematheque; Cable Channel 19, Chicago, co-curated by NAME and The Center for New T.V.; Chicago Filmmakers; Berks Filmmakers, Reading PA.; Ann Arbor Film Festival; Film Center, School of Art Institute of Chicago; The Collective for Living Cinema (NYC); Hallwalls, Buffalo N.Y.; Millennium Film Workshop (NYC); and the London Filmmakers' Coop.
