FTVM 405: Screendance
Film and dance both explore movement in time. Some theorists have written that “film is dance.” From Maya Deren to music video and beyond, FTVM 405: Screendance, taught by Terri Sarris, explores the unique challenges of creating kinesthetic films, particularly focused on capturing and creating dance for the screen.
Screendance works featured from Fall 2019 are as follows:
"Y" - Mario Vircha
"Muse" - Charlotte Beggs|
"I Don't Believe in Ghosts" - Colin Farmer
"Acanthus" - Adam Rarey
Please note that credits for dancers and collaborators are listed at the end of each video.
Migration all over the world has provoked the separation of millions of life stories. How can there be a new life on the other side? How do you see your prior life through the border?
Mario Vircha
I’ve always loved museums ever since I was a child...[so]... I wanted to create a piece that told the story of the museum-goer through dance and film.
Charlotte Beggs
I really wanted to make a horror screendance. Although there's not a ton of movement, I tried to focus on lighting and cinematography to make what movement there is impactful.
