Shruti Ghosh is a PhD scholar in the combined English and WGS programme at the University of Michigan.Her research is situated at the intersections of medical humanities, gender and queer studies, graphic narratives, and South Asian literary and cultural studies. Her doctoral project seeks to examine infertility memoirs, exploring reproductive lived experiences, medicalization, and the politics of representation in South Asian contexts. Her proposed doctoral project examines the medicalisation of female infertility in India through a multi-method sociological and interpretive approach, with a primary focus on patient memoirs. By situating these narratives alongside interviews, surveys, and archival sources, the project analyzes how reproductive governance, medical authority, and patriarchal ideology intersect to shape and often disempower women’s experiences. It thus highlights the lived realities of those whose reproductive struggles are often marginalized and ignored
Her broader research engages questions of reproductive justice, disability, feminist theory, visual culture, and popular media. She has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences, including at the University of Cambridge (UK), University of Southampton (UK), Durham University (UK), Trinity College Dublin, the University of Gdańsk (Poland), and the International Conference on Gender and Sexuality in Bangkok. She is a recipient of the Wellcome Trust Bursary for the Durham University Pre-PhD School on Medical Humanities and the International Digital Humanities Symposium Bursary from the University of Southampton.
Her work has appeared in publications by Springer, Routledge, The Polyphony, The Criterion, contributing to ongoing conversations in medical humanities, gender and and contemporary literary criticism. Alongside her research, she has taught undergraduate writing at Jawaharlal Nehru University, where her pedagogical interests include rhetoric, academic writing, and critical approaches to literature, media, and culture. She also serves in editorial roles with Erothanatos Journal supporting scholarly publishing and mentoring early-career researchers.
