Postcolonial South Asian Studies
Shruti Ghosh is a PhD scholar in the combined English and Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) program at the University of Michigan. Her research lies at the intersections of medical humanities, gender and queer studies, graphic narratives, and South Asian literary and cultural studies. Her dissertation examines the medicalization of female infertility in India through an interdisciplinary approach, exploring how reproductive governance, medical authority, and patriarchal structures shape women's lived experiences, with a focus on intersectional patient memoirs.
Her broader interests include reproductive justice, disability studies, feminist theory, visual culture, and popular media. She has presented her research at leading international institutions, including the University of Cambridge, Durham University, the University of Southampton, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Gdańsk, and the International Conference on Gender and Sexuality in Bangkok. She is the recipient of the Wellcome Trust Bursary for the Durham University Pre-PhD School on Medical Humanities and the International Digital Humanities Symposium Bursary from the University of Southampton.
Her work has appeared in publications by Springer, Routledge, The Polyphony, and The Criterion. She has taught undergraduate writing courses titled Rhetoric and Composition and Literary Theory at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She also serves on the editorial team of Erothanatos Journal, where she supports scholarly publishing and mentors early-career researchers. She welcomes collaborations in research, teaching, writing, and interdisciplinary creative projects.
