Dibyangee is interested in questions of place-making, vernacular modernity, and the life of a city — as a political and literary project. She grew up in Kolkata, India, and is fascinated by postcolonial narratives of urbanism. Before coming to Michigan, she studied English Literature at Jadavpur University, and taught "Introduction to Critical Thinking" to undergraduate students at Ashoka University. Her essay "Fish out of Water", a meditation on food as inheritance, won the Hopwood Award and the John Wagner Prize for graduate non-fiction in 2025.
