Shadowship Program

The department of Communication and Media offers Shadowships to declared juniors and seniors to build their networks and advance their professional experiences through a series of short immersive internships, in collaboration with alumni and friends. Selected students get to shadow an alumn for a few days to get a first hand experience of their work. The department covers the expenses associated with the shadowship.

The Tracy Wolfson Shadowship

Tracy Wolfson and Benjamin Rosof

"It was the weekend of a lifetime. Thanks to Tracy Wolfson and the Comm and Media department, I got to live my dream career for a couple days. I am now even more motivated to pursue this work professionally and make as many connections as I can."

Benjamin Rosof, Communication and Media, and Psychology '20

Tracy Wolfson is a Communication and Media Alumna and four-time Emmy Award-nominated reporter for CBS Sports. Each fall she hosts a shadowship where a Communication and Media major can witness first hand what goes into the production of a major sports event.

Television production of live sporting events is exciting and fast paced. While there have never been more opportunities to break into sports media, the competition has also never been higher. This immersive internship was created to help our comm major differentiate themselves and get a leg up on their competition.

During this 2-3 day immersive internship, the chosen comm and media major will get to experience:

  • Preparation for Game DayGame
  • Day production
  • Post-game production

The student will get a unique opportunity to see an in-depth look at how on air personalities create their content to behind-the-scenes shadowing of production staff and on air talent. They will get a first-hand look at the careers and professions they hope to pursue.

Application Rules

The application involves a two-step process. The initial application is a short form where you'll have the opportunity to describe why you are applying for the shadowship and your resume.

For applicants selected to move to the second round, there will be an additional step involving a short video.

This shadowship takes place over a weekend of October 1, 2023. Deadline for the first step is September 6.
