Dr. Yanna Krupnikov, professor of Communication and Media, recently published a new monograph.

The monograph "Emotions on Our Screens," co-authored with Talbot Andrews (Cornell University) and Lauren Olson (University of Pennsylvania), considers what happens when people encounter the emotions of strangers both on social media and in the news. The authors show that seeing people’s feelings about politics does not increase empathy. Instead, people are very skeptical of the sincerity of the emotions they see on their screens – even when they agree with a person’s political position.
