Pranav Malhotra, Assistant Professor in Communication and Media, appeared in an episode of Michigan Public's podcast, Stateside. In the episode, Pranav discusses common social media fears and how social media could look in the future. He urges consumers to look deeper into what's happening in society socially and culturally, instead of blaming social media.

He says, “And I think one of the reasons why it is dangerous to lay the blame exclusively on algorithms is it actually ends up kind of reinforcing a power that these tech companies have. Because the way we've talked about algorithms have almost kind of mystified them in a way, or given them this magical power that is causing all of these problems.” He then goes on to hypothesize that "bounded social media places" are going to become increasingly more popular, especially in the US.
