Students at the University of Michigan who have been approved for disability-related accommodations must submit their Accommodation Letter at the start of each semester through the Accommodate portal for each class.
For Physics Intro Courses, you may also submit the Google form below to the Physics Student Services office to ensure appropriate arrangements for your exams.
Instructions
Request your letter in Accommodate first. Students are expected to submit a Semester Request every semester to create an Accommodation Letter for their courses. Submitting these semester requests are highly important, as they allow you access to your accommodations each semester.
You may then complete the Exam Accommodations form below with all needed information and attach your SSD accommodations letter. This will inform the Intro Course Coordinator that you need accommodations for your exams.
After you submit the form, monitor your email. You will hear from the Physics Student Services office with details about your accommodated testing for the midterm exams before your class' first midterm.
Testing Locations
Some students will be instructed to take their exams at the TAC (Testing Accommodation Center), while others will be given details to test in extended time and limited distraction settings within the Physics Department. This is dependent on your accommodations, the physics course you are enrolled in, and the availability of the TAC on your testing dates.
If assigned to take midterms at the TAC, the TAC will be scheduling a testing reservation directly, and the student will be notified, and able to view that reservation in Accommodate.
If assigned to test in the Physics Accommodation Space, the student will receive their details before their first midterm. Any new details for future midterms will be sent leading up to those exams.
In general, accommodated exams are scheduled on the same date as the regular exam and at a time that overlaps with the standard testing period. Exceptions may occur based on departmental or TAC capacity, as well as scheduling constraints related to extended-time accommodations. Students approved for business-hours accommodations will, in most cases, be scheduled to test the following business day in the morning.
All students with accommodations in physics intro classes will receive information about their final exam testing arrangements closer to the date of the final.
To learn more about testing accommodations and the TAC, view their webpage. For questions about your reservation, email the TAC at saas.tac.staff@umich.edu or call 734-763-1334 with any questions.
Please email Physics Student Services at physics.sso@umich.edu with any general questions about exam accommodations or your reservation if you are assigned to test in the Physics Department.
Disability Accommodations:
The University of Michigan is committed to creating as accessible educational environment for students with disabilities/disabled students as possible. Disability can include: mental health conditions, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, chronic illness, physical conditions, sensory conditions, and more.
If you anticipate or are experiencing barriers based on disability or temporary injuries, Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) (ssd.umich.edu) is the office that students work with to explore reasonable accommodations, tools, and resources.
Students must first be connected with SSD in order to be approved for accommodations for a disability or a temporary injury. If you have not connected with SSD and anticipate or are experiencing a disability-related barrier, and would like to discuss accommodations and/or resources, please contact SSD by completing their initial information form (https://ssd.umich.edu/) For more information, call 734-763-3000 or email ssdoffice@umich.edu.
