Research Centers & Programs

The Department encourages early, extensive participation in research, in both the graduate and undergraduate programs, and opportunities for such interaction abound. Graduate students, as well as advanced undergraduates, typically assume much responsibility in research, helping to design, fabricate, install, and test equipment; plan, propose, and execute experiments; analyze and interpret data; write conference and journal papers, and present data at meetings. Such hands-on experience has applications in many areas of scientific research and study. A Michigan physicist may also take advantage of ever increasing research opportunities outside the University at affiliated facilities and national laboratories.
