The Communication & Media Department encourages students to pursue opportunities abroad to enhance their education and gain global perspectives. CGIS offers an excellent range of study abroad options for students at Michigan, including cultural immersion, internships, and more!
Study Abroad courses that are often used for major requirements. Students can easily fulfill their major and requirements through study abroad courses. For the Communication and Media major, students can contribute up to 10 credits towards the Additional Advanced COMM credit (elective) requirement.
Process for approval: Students should consult with a Communication and Media advisor to see how credits abroad might count towards a major. Prior to going abroad, look at the pre-approved courses to see if your coursework has already been approved. Students can set up an appointment with a department advisor or email commadvisor@umich.edu with the course and term for their study abroad. Additionally, students can submit the courses to the study abroad course approval form.

Funding opportunities: Financial aid and scholarships are available for many programs and the LSA Study Abroad Scholarship is also available to all eligible LSA students.
