LSA's language requirement seeks to prepare students for a world that has been profoundly transformed by the forces of globalization. CGIS offers a variety of language programs that students can attend to fulfill this requirement. By participating in language programs abroad, students can develop and enhance their language skills quickly through practicing with their host family, professors, local classmates, and others!
 

CGIS programs approved for the LSA Language Requirement:

CGIS offers Spring/Summer programs specifically designed to fulfill the LSA language requirement in French, Italian and Spanish. These programs are taught by U-M instructors from the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL). Students can find more information about the sequence for language courses on the RLL website.

CGIS programs with language courses:

The programs listed below may be eligible to fulfill the LSA language requirement – students must meet with their academic advisor or the department in charge of the corresponding language placement exam (e.g., the Middle Eastern Studies department reviews Arabic-language program offerings) to confirm eligibility. CGIS advisors cannot give students course approvals or equivalencies for the programs listed below.
