About
I'm Akshitha, an Anthropology and Biomolecular Science major on the pre-medical track planning to graduate in 2027! I've been doing a lot of work on the intersection of culture and medicine--how the human experience, traditions, and stories shape the way we think about health. I hope to carry this into a future career in healthcare!
My time with UROP has been one of the most meaningful experiences at the university. As I UROP Student, I got to work on the impact of environmental chemicals on health, and a continued at the lab even after my time as a student in the program had ended. My mentor really encouraged me to think about why I choose to engage in research, and I carry this forward the best I can as a facilitator.
Outside school, I try to stay involved in the community by working as a medical assistant and helping put on dance and music events through the student orgs on campus. I also help lead the Anthropology Club, which allows me to explore the things that make us human while having meaningful conversations with others.
In my free time, I enjoy taking hikes, reading, and dancing. I've just started running again after an injury, so I can't wait for the Big House 5k this year!
