About
Having studied and taught at UM, Dr. Sofia Bento uses her knowledge of the university to guide students through their own UM journey. In addition to helping UROP students navigate their academic and research experience, she works with students on academic and professional development, especially preparing students for their post-UM goals, such as continuing their research and applying for further research opportunities, grad school, and gaining professional experience.
As a PhD student, Dr. Bento researched women's comedy and life writing, ranging from memoirs to stand-up and improv, exploring ideas of authorship, vulnerability, and affect, and how the comedy genre allows women to regain control of their own narratives. In her free time, she enjoys going to live comedy shows, watching horror movies with all the lights on, making up songs about her dogs, and maxing out her library holds limit.
