Associate Director of Mentor Engagement
About
Raúl has over a decade of experience working to broaden access to higher education across colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and other institutions in California, North Carolina, and Michigan. In North Carolina, Raúl worked as the Migrant Youth Director at Student Action with Farmworkers, using theatre, art, and popular education approaches to help students and their families with the college application process. He also coordinated the Adelante Education Coalition, a statewide coalition in North Carolina focused on increasing access to education for Latino and immigrant students and their families.
Raúl has researched mentoring, STEM climate, and undergraduate research experiences among Latine/a/o students. Raul’s research interests center on exploring higher education institutions’ potential to transform into equitable and inclusive institutions. His dissertation research examined the roles of mid-level administrators working on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and their capacity to drive organizational change.
