About
Chrissy has spent over fifteen years working to understand how communities build connections, first through her folklore research and then through her work developing the award-winning Community Powered initiative at Wisconsin Humanities. Chrissy built the Community Powered curriculum and toolkit, and taught workshops to local leaders on how to use history, culture, and storytelling for community projects and community development. Before working at Wisconsin Humanities, Chrissy spent over a decade teaching college classes in folklore, oral history, composition, and literature in both Wisconsin and Virginia.
Chrissy now manages the Community-Engaged Research (CER) program at UROP, including the DCERP summer program. She facilitates collaborations between nonprofits and U-M students to conduct research that works with and learns from communities. Chrissy firmly believes that learning CER methods makes researchers even more conscientious, respectful, and curious, and looks forward to seeing UROP students take these skills into their future studies and careers.
