Research environments are shaped not only by academic interests and professional goals, but also by the identities, experiences, and perspectives that each person brings. In this interactive workshop, students will explore what it means to develop a sense of belonging within research and academic spaces. Participants will consider how identity can influence relationships with mentors, research teams, and institutions, while reflecting on the strengths they bring to their work. Through guided discussion, personal reflection, and practical scenarios, students will identify strategies for building supportive relationships, communicating across differences, responding to challenges, and navigating research environments with confidence. The session will also highlight resources and networks that can help students feel supported and empowered throughout their research experience.
