Lisa Young, UMMAA research affiliate and U-M Anthropology lecturer, presented her work with the Hopi Seed Keeping Project at the 2024 annual conference of the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM). Dr. Young (pictured) has been working to connect Hopi seed keepers with collections and documentation from a 1935 Hopi Crop Survey that are curated by three different institutions: UMMAA, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia. The goal of the project is to center Hopi values and interests, so that as the community gains access to these collections, they can engage in their own initiatives on food, farming, language, and family histories.
