UMMAA curator Alicia Ventresca-Miller is part of a team that has found evidence that Iron Age Scythians drank milk from cows, sheep, goats, and horses. The study, published in PLOS One, analyzed the dental plaque from individuals who lived about 2500 years ago in what is now Ukraine. Researchers used methods such as paleoproteomic analysis to identify the origins of proteins trapped in the mineralized dental plaque of 28 individuals.
Congratulations to Alicia Ventresca-Miller and the team!
