The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology invites you to "Unraveling the Fabric of the Past: Textile Production and Consumption in Pre-Roman Italy," a presentation by Margarita Gleba, associate professor at the University of Padua., on Thursday, April 10, 6-7 p.m., in the fourth floor amphitheatre of the Rackham Building (915 E. Washington Street, Ann Arbor).
Representing one of the earliest human craft technologies, textiles have been a fundamental part of subsistence, economy, and exchange for millennia. They can tell us about social, chronological, and cultural aspects of past societies, all while giving us unique opportunities to come very close to their users and makers. Until recently, little was known about the textiles produced by the Etruscans and other people of ancient Italy, but recent research has changed this—allowing us to assess textile production and consumption in pre-Roman Italy and more broadly across Europe.
This free, public event is supported by the Kozma Lecture Fund.
