The UMMAA is pleased to present Sarah Richardson, PhD candidate in anthropology at the University of Manitoba, who will speak on Friday, January 28, 12-1 p.m., as part of the online UMMAA Brown Bag Lecture Series.
Integrating datasets and incorporating legacy data are part of the process when working with archaeological materials. The domestic area of the site of Tell es-Safi/Gath is the subject of Richardson's Ph.D. She will discuss the history of the site and excavations but will focus primarily on the process of data digitization and the bumps along the way. The digitization of spatial data from past excavation reports and field journals is often a tedious process. Richardson explores the reasons that archaeologists go through these tedious processes, the issues that pop up when digitizing and publishing older data, and the possibilities for future research that these endeavors provide.
