Course Description:
Students will explore fundamental concepts in field ecology and have a working toolbox of field techniques in population, community and ecosystem ecology, learned through conducting original research projects. Specific skills that will be developed include field observation and hypothesis development, experimental design, field sampling techniques, research ethics, statistics and data analysis, and written and oral science communication. The course will utilize northern Michigan ecosystems, local field sites, and existing experiments when possible as an observational and experimental laboratory to gain a working knowledge of field ecology.
