Are you a new researcher (i.e. PI, postdoc, graduate student) excited to work at UMBS ?
Who needs to submit a research proposal:
- New research projects to UMBS
- PI’s, PostDocs, & Students running their own, independent research project (not technicians or students working on projects under someone else’s direction). If you are a student and want to apply for funding from UMBS, you must be working on an independent project.
- Projects that have not been previously reviewed by the UMBS Research Committee, before 2022, or have significantly changed (methods, scope, investigators).

The submission deadline for new projects: Feb 1st. Projects are reviewed and decisions will be communicated to researchers by April 1st.
If you are part of a research team, the project lead must register the project first and give the exact project title to team members so they can register under the same project. Many approved projects are already registered with UMBS.
Who needs to submit a research proposal renewal:
- Previously approved projects submitted by PI’s that have been running for 3 or more years
- Previously approved projects submitted by students requesting funding through the UMBS fellowship program. Students are required to submit a project renewal each subsequent year
- Projects approved in the last 3 years that have significantly changed (methods, scope, investigators) since first reviewed and approved.
Click the orange button above to navigate to the UMBS Research Gateway. Projects older than three years or that have changed substantially in scope or methods require renewal. You will need to register as a user on the UMBS Research Gateway.
The submission deadline to renew existing projects : Feb 1st. Projects are reviewed and decisions will be communicated to researchers by April 1st.
You must submit a Housing Application every year so that we have updated information on dates, equipment you are bringing or will need, your research role, or any other changes related to your project. If you will have other researchers working with you on a project you lead, you will need to share the exact project title so team members can register under the correct project. Housing applications will close April 1, 2025.
NOTE: Your housing or research facilities can not be assigned until you have submitted all the information requested in our Housing Application. Your invoice will based on the dates you submit in your housing form.
