Lecture: "Are There Reasons for the Demonstrable Variation of the UMBS Forests?"

Saturday, May 26, 2012
12:00 AM
Gates Lecture Hall, Biological Station, 9133 Biological Road, Pellston, MI.

Speaker: Dan Kashian, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at Wayne State University.

When we traverse a natural area and look at plants, we are seeing only pieces. Other pieces of ecosystems are far harder to see and thus often ignored. Without knowing and understanding plants' ecological context, we will miss their importance and function across landscapes. The remarkably diverse glacial geology, landforms, soils, vegetation, and disturbance history at UMBS make it the ideal laboratory in which to learn and teach about why the natural world is the way it is.

This lecture is free and open to the public. It is party of the Michigan Botanical Club's "Spring Foray."
