Appropriate use of the Mathematics computing labs
The Mathematics computer labs are provided primarily for students registered in courses that require the use of mathematical software. Priority of use is given to students doing work assigned for courses. During busy times, you may be asked to relinquish your station if you are working on something that is not clearly related to a mathematics course.
Printing
The Mathematics department computer labs use the UM Sites printing system. Each image – printed side of a sheet of paper – is charged to your UM printing allocation at the current rate. If you want to know how many pages you have printed, you can see that information at the Balances and Subscriptions web page.
General information about Sites printing, including the current rates, can be found at the Printing in Sites web page.
Hours
We keep one lab, B727 East Hall, unreserved for “open” use. We will open other labs as needed. The four labs used for teaching are generally closed, unless it gets busy, at which time we will open as need dictates. Our open hours are:

Where to save your files
Files on the Math computer lab computers are stored on the computer at which you are sitting, and they are not accessible from elsewhere. If you want to to keep your files, you should copy them to the My IFS Home folder on the Desktop. Once copied there, you will be able to access them using Mfile or from other campus sites. Files not copied to IFS are deleted the next day from each computer.
You may wish to work on files that are on the Desktop, but please copy them to IFS if you need to keep them.

Web homework and gateway testing
Several courses have online homework and/or testing. The homework and tests are offered on the Math instructional server. You can do the web homework in the Math computer labs, however, the practice Gateway tests must be taken elsewhere.
