If you're talking with your estate attorney or putting your will together, use our sample language to include in your will or living trust.
UNRESTRICTED BEQUEST
“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation, (a) the sum of $___________ or (b) ______% of my estate to be used for the benefit of the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts as the College may determine.”
RESTRICTED BEQUEST
Option 1: “I give, devise, and bequeath to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation, (a) the sum of $________ or (b) ______% of my estate for the benefit of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for the purpose(s) of _____________________ or if such use, in the judgment of the University, is or shall become impracticable or unwise, then for such purpose(s) as the University shall determine.”
Option 2: “I give, devise, and bequeath to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation, (a) the sum of $________ or (b) ______% of my estate for the benefit of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts in accordance with the most recent agreement on file with the University.”
RESIDUARY BEQUEST
“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation, (a) all or (b) _____% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal property, to be used (a) for the benefit of the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts as the College may determine; or (b) for the purpose(s) of_____________________________ or if such use, in the judgment of the University, is or shall become impracticable or unwise, then for such purpose(s) as the University shall determine.”
CONTINGENT BEQUEST
“If the above named legatees or devisees (or beneficiaries) should predecease me, then I hereby give, de- vise, and bequeath the same to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation, to be used (a) for the benefit of the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts as the College may determine or (b) for the benefit of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for the purpose(s) of ________________________________ or if such use, in the judgment of the University, is or shall become impracticable or unwise, then for such purpose(s) as the University shall determine.”
