In addition to work as a member of our faculty, Andries Coetzee currently holds the position of Director of International Partnerships for LSA, and in that capacity plays a key role in developing and strengthening the college’s global institutional relationships. In November 2024, he visited three universities in China to advance these efforts, including the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), a long-standing partner of U-M through the UM-SJTU Joint Institute. He also visited the Eastern Institute of Technology in Ningbo (EITECH) and Lanzhou University (LZU).
At Lanzhou University, Andries delivered a guest lecture titled “Patagonian Afrikaans: Place, Identity, and History” to students and faculty in the School of History and Culture. His talk highlighted his collaborative work with Professors Nick Henriksen and Lorenzo García-Amaya on the Patagonian Afrikaans community.
