Andries Coetzee, Nick Henriksen, and Lorenzo García-Amaya recently published a chapter in an edited volume titled Afrikaans Linguistics: Contemporary Perspectives. This volume highlights current theoretical and descriptive research on Afrikaans by 23 scholars from South Africa, Europe, and the United States.

Their chapter, titled “Patagonia Afrikaans: A Remnant Variety Spoken in South America,” summarizes the ongoing U-M project examining the linguistic and cultural practices of the Patagonian Afrikaans community. More information about this project can be found on the project website.

The volume also includes a chapter by U-M alumnus Paul Roberge (PhD, 1980), titled “Afrikaans and Creolisation,” showcasing further contributions to the study of Afrikaans.
