About
Matthew Douglas Adams’ research explores the relationship between architectural monumentality, ritual performance, kingship, and the nascent state in early Egypt, through the lens of the site of Abydos. He has directed excavations at the site since 1999 (https://abydos.org/).
His most recent work led to the re-discovery of the Abydos Royal Brewery, the largest brewery known from the ancient world, and aims to define the economic parameters of early royal expression at the site. Dr. Adams’ work also contributes to the Kelsey’s Bioarchaeological Laboratory research.
