Statements & Policies

Acquisitions

Since 1973, the acquisition of ancient artifacts has been drastically curtailed by the 1970 UNESCO Convention, which strictly constrains the importation of cultural property from museums or monuments in other participating countries.

Appraisals

As a non-profit, state-affiliated institution, the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is not able to provide appraisals or authentication services for artifacts or art objects.

Code of Ethics

Institutions like the Kelsey Museum have special responsibilities relating to their collections and audiences and thus develop codes of ethics to help them carry out these duties in an ethical manner.

Stewardship of Human Remains

Human remains are entitled to a high level of dignity and respect, and their stewardship at the Kelsey follows two guiding principles: respect for the person and the integrity of their remains and respect for the current and future research potential of the remains.

Statement on Sexual Harassment

The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is committed to creating and sustaining an environment for learning, research, and collaboration that is free from sexual harassment, in or outside the museum.
