About
Brenda Imber serves as coordinator for the ELI’s training and advising of international graduate students who are potential and current GSIs. Some of the courses she teaches are pronunciation in field-specific contexts, seminars for first year GSIs, and a component in the PHD Teacher Development Training Program in the Ross School of Business. In addition, she teaches the speaking component of the Academic and Professional Communication Institute for the Ross PhD program and the Case Studies component of the English for Business Studies program for non-native speakers of English entering the Ross School of Business MBA program.
Her areas of interest are English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). Her research interests are the use of technology in teaching pronunciation, instructional discourse strategies, teacher training, and professional cross-cultural communication skills. Brenda served as the president of MITESOL, the state affiliate of TESOL, the international association of Teachers of English as a Second Language.
