Online Pre-Arrival Course: Preparing for Graduate Success

Open to Newly-Admitted Graduate Students in All U-M Schools and Colleges*

Refine your language skills and build confidence using English in this optional four-week asynchronous online course. Topics covered include English for research and the classroom, life on campus, and the cultural expectations of graduate study in the U.S.

  • Review and practice English for study, research, and life on campus 
  • Learn about the cultural expectations of graduate study and research in the U.S.
  • Refine your language skills and build confidence using English through online discussions
  • Receive extensive individualized feedback from the instructor
  • Build friendships and learn about resources to support you when you arrive on campus

Course Dates: Monday, July 13 - Sunday, August 9, 2026

Registration/Payment Deadline: July 10, 2026
Time commitment: 3-4 hours per week, according to your own schedule
Course fee: $625
