ELI's offerings are open to all U-M undrgraduates including transfer students, visiting, exchange, and non-degree students.
ELI classes are small, interactive, and provide students with extensive one-on-one feedback. Our curriculum is based on the latest research on the kinds of speaking and writing students need to achieve their academic and professional goals. Additional language and academic support is available via our Speaking and Writing studio, and workshops. Our faculty provides every student with a high-level of personalized guidance and support.

TESOL Teacher Preparation Courses
The English Language Institute (ELI) offers courses which prepare students to teach English to speakers of other languages. All of these courses include a balance of theory and practice, as well as a strong emphasis on community engagement and service learning principles. Many students find these courses to be valuable preparation for Peace Corps, Fulbright, and other teaching abroad opportunities.
Students in these courses gain practical life skills and learn how to successfully interact with individuals across cultures. Some discover a career! Students in all schools and majors are welcome in these fun, interactive, yet challenging courses. The only requirements are an interest in language teaching and a desire to engage with people from different cultures.
