Welcome to the ELI
The English Language Institute (ELI) is an academic department in U-M's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts that serves students, scholars, researchers, staff, and post-docs at the University of Michigan. The ELI provides a full range of English for Academic Purposes graduate courses and other types of language and academic support. We also offer language and pedagogy courses for international GSIs and TESOL courses that prepare students to teach English in local communities or abroad.

Graduate Students
The English Language Institute (ELI) serves U-M graduate students and scholars from all language backgrounds with academic and professional English courses and language resources.
International Scholars, Researchers, Faculty, Staff, and Postdocs
The ELI offers non-credit courses and other resources to help international Scholars, Researchers, Faculty, Staff and Post-Docs increase their confidence using English and thus maximize their professional contributions during their stay at the University of Michigan and beyond.
Undergraduate Students
