PhD in Classical Studies
About
Matteo grew up in Milano, Italy. He graduated with a BA in Classics from the Università degli Studi di Milano in 2014, writing a thesis on Callimachus’ Aitia. He then moved to England, where he earned an MA in Classics from the University of Durham in 2015. His Master dissertation, awarded with a distinction, deals with the political and ethical thought of the sophist and tyrant Critias.
Currently, he is eager to explore the complex relationship between philosophy and poetry in the ancient world. Furthermore, he is deeply interested in scholia and ancient philosophical commentaries, as well as in Middle and Neo-Platonism and ancient political thought.
In his spare time he enjoys reading novels, skiing and supporting his favorite soccer team.
