Ph.D. in Classical Studies
About
Alanna graduated summa cum laude with her B.A. in History, Latin, and Medieval and Renaissance Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her senior thesis, Underneath the Helmet: The Life of a Gladiator, examined the social hierarchies and behind-the-scenes
experiences in the lives of gladiators. Her research interests include Roman sport and spectacle, frontier studies, and epigraphy. She has participated in the Mitrou Archaeological Project in Greece and the Garden of the Hesperides Archaeological Project in Morocco. Although a philologist at heart, Alanna has a passion for material culture, preservation, and archiving. Outside of academia she enjoys live music, hikes in the Smoky Mountains, and perpetually improving her homemade southern cooking.
