Rachel Sarvey

Rachel received her BA in Classical Archaeology with highest honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2025). In her senior honors thesis, she conducted a stylistic study of stamp and seal impressions found on Egyptian transport amphorae which were produced in the Hellenistic Period; through this study, she sought to understand the role stamping and sealing of transport amphorae played in the Egyptian wine production economy. While at UNC, she served as a Cartographic Research Assistant at the Ancient World Mapping Center in the Department of History. Additionally, she worked as an undergraduate research assistant for the Desert Networks project. Rachel participated in the excavation of an Early Minoan site in eastern Crete, for which she was awarded the Robinson Honors Fellowship and the Peter Knox Excavation and Field School Award. Rachel is currently a research assistant on the DiSKO Project in the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. Her academic interests include the visual and material culture of the Hellenistic and Roman Eastern Mediterranean and Near East, and in particular Greco-Roman Egypt; household archaeology; ceramics; and geospatial applications in archaeology.
