Ph.D. in Ancient History
About
Nicole completed her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in History at Tufts University. She then obtained an M.A. in History at Tufts, followed by an M.A. in Classical Studies from Columbia University. At Columbia, Nicole completed an M.A. thesis under Alan Ross titled Provincial Identity under the Late Antique Empire: Nicomedia in Art and Oratory, in which she compared literary and archaeological evidence to examine the identity and self-representation of a new Roman capital in the late Empire. She also completed a project with Columbia’s Rare Book and Manuscripts library to inventory the collection’s ostraca and epigraphy stones.
At Michigan, Nicole plans to continue her interdisciplinary approach to understanding Roman social and provincial history in the Roman Empire and Late Antiquity, and particularly aspires to expand her skillset in mapping and ancient writing surfaces to do so.
