Stellar scientific research and positive impact on society will be explored through a symposium featuring a keynote panel, presentations, roundtables, and concluding reception honoring the legacy of Dr. Raoul Kopelman (Vienna 10/21/1933 - Ann Arbor 7/20/2023).
Dr. Kopelman was a professor at the University of Michigan for 57 years (1966-2023); the Richard Smalley Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry, Physics, Applied Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Biology; member of the Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences, the Michigan Biointerfaces Institute, and the Rogel Cancer Center.
Since 2003, his daughter, Shirli Kopelman has been a Professor at the University of Michigan; her expertise is in negotiations. With a focus on negotiating innovative multidisciplinary ideas, we will map the impact of Dr. Raoul Kopelman’s research, which transcended academic disciplines, inspired entrepreneurial and institutional innovation, and contributed to the public good. Throughout this one-day conference, former students, colleagues, family, and friends will come together to share personal recollections, highlight scientific contributions, showcase impactful innovation, and inspire stellar multidisciplinary research as the key to a better future.
