Alpha Chi Sigma (ΑΧΣ) Outstanding First Year Student Award:
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated an interest in chemistry, shown outstanding academic potential as judged by instructors, and has demonstrated leadership with fellow students. 

Alumni First Year Achievement Awards
These awards are presented to students in their first-year chemistry program who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their laboratory and lecture work.  The award is based on the recommendations of instructors, graduate student instructors, and undergraduate advisors.

Alumni Outstanding Awards
The Alumni Outstanding Awards recognize academic excellence and leadership potential of second year, third year, and senior majors from within the Department of Chemistry.

American Chemical Society Chemistry Awards
These awards are presented on behalf of the American Chemical Society to recognize outstanding undergraduates who are conducting research in the fields of inorganic, organic, physical chemistry, and safety & ethics.

American Institute of Chemists Award
The American Institute of Chemists Awards are given by the recommendation of the awards committee based on a student’s excellent record of ability, character, and academic achievement. 

CRC Outstanding Achievement Award
Each year, the Department of Chemistry recognizes a student taking introductory chemistry courses who has demonstrated exceptional performance in laboratory and lecture work.  The CRC Award is one of the top honors for an early-career student.

First Year Chemistry Leadership Award
This award is given to first year undergraduate students taking courses in the Department of Chemistry who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their laboratory and lecture courses. The award is based on the recommendations of instructors, graduate student instructors, and undergraduate advisors.

Honors College Vanko Award
Named for the late Roger B. Vanko, this award is presented each year to outstanding Honors students from the Department of Chemistry who have shown academic excellence.    

Huron Valley Section Outstanding Student Leadership Award
Each year, the Huron Valley Section is pleased to recognize outstanding achievements in professional citizenship demonstrated by undergraduate students.

Kathleen Haller Ryan Scholarship
The Kathleen Haller Ryan Scholarship is presented to students who have shown outstanding achievement in the field of Chemistry or Biochemistry.

Marc W. Feldmann Memorial Research Award
The Marc W. Feldmann Memorial Research Award is presented to students who have shown outstanding achievement in research in the field of Chemistry or Biochemistry

Royal Society of Chemistry Award. (Previously Merck Award)
The Royal Society of Chemistry provides the University of Michigan, Department of Chemistry, with awards each year to be given to outstanding students.

Seyhan N. Ege WISE Award
Seyhan N. Ege was one of the founders of the University of Michigan’s Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program. Each year, the Program recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student from a group that is traditionally underrepresented in the chemical sciences.

Summer Research Awards
Each year, thanks to both endowment funds and the generous donations of private and industrial sponsors, we are able to support many students for summer research. Selections are based on recommendations by the faculty, as well as their academic records.

Scholarships from the College of Literature, Arts, and Sciences for Chemistry Students:

 

Gomberg Chemistry Scholarship
Awarded to students based on financial need and/or academic achievement concentrating in Chemistry. This scholarship was established in 1936 by friends and old students of Professor M. Gomberg in honor of his seventieth birthday. Professor Gomberg was a Chemistry professor and researcher. In 1900, he discovered free radicals, which formed the basis for modern organic free radical chemistry.

Carlene Friedley Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students based on financial need and/or academic achievement. This scholarship was established in 1991 in memory of Alyce Carlene Friedley by her husband, Wilbur C. Bigelow. She was a University of Michigan graduate with two Chemistry degrees: B.S. (1947) and M.S. degree (1948). She was also a Lecturer in Chemistry at Michigan in the early 1950s.
