Chemistry Education Leadership

Chemistry Education Leadership Program.  The Chemistry Education Leadership Program supports the professional development of Chemistry graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Participants expand their knowledge and skills for teaching, develop as leaders in education, and prepare for teaching and mentoring in their future careers.  Inquiries about the Chemistry Education Leadership Program should be directed to the Associate Chair for Educational Development and Practice, Prof. Ginger Shultz, gshultz@umich.edu.

Chemistry Graduate Student Education Fellows.  Each spring, a cohort of education fellows is selected. The fellows will receive leadership training over the summer and participate in planning and implementing GSI training during Fall orientation. During the academic year, fellows may serve as GSIs for CHEM 549 (a GSI training course), may support new GSIs as instructional coaches  and will work together to organize professional development activities, including seminars, panels, or workshops focused on mentoring and teaching.

Future Faculty GSI program.  The Future Faculty Graduate Student Instructor (FFGSI) program supports the professional development of graduate students interested in working with faculty and staff on an educational development project. Projects support the educational mission of the department and include a range of activities such as course development and outreach. Additional information about the FFGSI program and specific faculty-sponsored projects are available at Future Faculty GSI Program .

Postdoctoral Lecturing Program.   Postdoctoral scholars can gain experience teaching as instructor of record.   Typically, scholars teach in an introductory chemistry course that is team-taught with other experienced faculty. Scholars are also paired with an experienced instructor, who will mentor them through the term.  Inquiries should be directed to the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Education,  Prof. John Wolfe, jpwolfe@umich.edu
