Yellowdig is a discussion tool that has the look and functionality of social media (e.g. Facebook). It allows students to make posts that include multimedia elements, and to respond to posts made by others, including by replying or by ‘liking’ the post. Yellowdig presents posts in a single stream, which can keep discussion moving rapidly.
By using tags, the single Yellowdig course board can be used to discuss specific course topics or material.
With its social-media styling, Yellowdig is a natural choice if you want to provide students with a place to socialize with classmates that’s not connected to an assignment or set course activity.
Any instructor can enable Yellowdig in Canvas course navigation. You may also wish to start with the Yellowdig Instructor Guide. Our YellowDig Scoring Explanation document also comes in handy when setting up your YellowDig board.
There is a YellowDig Student Guide to help students learn how to use the board. For more detailed instructions, the Yellowdig Orientation Guide is here.
Yellowdig also provides extensive documentation and how-tos on their Support site.
If you’d like assistance planning how best to use YellowDig in your course, please feel free to request a consultation with the LSA Learning and Teaching Consultants.
If you have technical issues with Yellowdig, you can contact brian.verdine@yellowdig.com directly.
