Peerceptiv is a peer assessment tool that allows students to give and receive feedback on class assignments and on how well group members participated in group projects. Students are graded on how accurately they rate others’ submissions and how helpful their comments are, in addition to the quality of work on their own assignment.
A Peerceptiv assignment involves three steps: uploading a submission, reviewing peers' submissions, and providing feedback on reviews. The reviewing process is anonymous and double-blind, meaning that students will not know whose product they are reviewing or who is reviewing their work.
Students submit their work as individuals and participate in the peer review process with the classmates they are assigned. In these assignments, each student uploads a product during the submission phase, then rates and reviews peer work products during the review phase, and then lastly may participate in a feedback phase where they read the comments their work received and rate them for their helpfulness.
Students work in groups on a Peerceptiv assignment based on the groups entered into Canvas for a particular assignment. In group assignments, students submit their work as a group (one submission per group). Reviewing is an individual process in which each student completes their own reviewing work. Depending on the settings the instructor selects, students complete 1 to 3 reviews. This recommended number of reviews per student is lower in group assignments to avoid excessive feedback workload.
Students can also anonymously evaluate their team members participation and contributions to their group using the Team Member Evalution tool.
Allows instructors to assign peer reviews in class for live or in-person assignments and presentations. Students use a rubric to provide real-time feedback to their peers during a presentation.
Peerceptiv is designed to scale for large-enrollment courses that want to use genuine peer learning as part of their pedagogy. The rubric and norming/reliability features, in particular, allow large courses to use essay assignments and offer all students meaningful feedback during the writing process.
Peerceptiv is already integrated with Canvas!
Any LSA instructor can use Peerceptiv in their Canvas course. Peerceptiv assignments can be added by creating an Assignment and selecting the External Tool option for Peerceptiv under Submission Type.
