Research shows that students feel more overall satisfaction in courses where teachers demonstrate care and connectedness with their students. When instructors build a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, students are more likely to be curious, take risks, and explore their creativity. Caring is also a practice rooted in sound pedagogical theory. This two-part series will explore behaviors that seem to have the greatest impact on how students perceive caring in the class.

The first session discusses ways to design thought-provoking questions and facilitate discussions. The second session explores a variety of discussion tools available to LSA faculty, and the third session shares evidence based strategies and discussion activities to engage students in course materials.
We are pleased to publish recordings of our two-part seminar series on how to create positive student interactions in the classroom. Creating a positive learning climate in which students feel comfortable and believe they can be successful inspires students to care more deeply about what they are learning and put forth more effort to engage with classmates, building a stronger learning community. The strategies we suggest apply to both on-site and online courses. The first seminar will discuss best practices for designing assignments to ensure positive student interactions. The second seminar will focus on strategies for supporting and managing groups
