Internship: Research Assistant at the Mayo Clinic
What: Doyle worked in a research lab that creates mathematical models to predict brain tumor growth.
One of the last things Tatum Doyle had to do before wrapping up her internship at the Mayo Clinic was give a presentation to 30 people. Simple enough—except the audience was comprised of surgeons, researchers, medical students, and her boss.
Giving an update on the research she worked on over the summer—an MRI process for measuring brain tumor growth in rat brains—would’ve been an intimidating task to her three years ago. Now, it’s become as straightforward as the other parts of her internship.
“I’ve learned that as long as you’ve done the hard work you need to in an honest way, you can field those questions you might be scared of,” Doyle said.
She spent the summer in Arizona thanks in part to an internship scholarship from the Opportunity Hub. Her experience at the Mayo Clinic and her philosophy classes at LSA have inspired her next move: applying to law school. “My goal is to practice patent law for medical research labs.”
